Susan B Anthony’s video is a victim of TDS

Standard

In August 2018, Susan was invited to tell her story at the Army War College in Carlisle PA, in celebration of Women’s Equality Day (She calls it Inequality Day). If you scroll down this page, you will see a former link to the video of the event. You cannot view it however as the Army has taken it down from their YouTube Channel. Why you might ask?

Did Susan say something offensive?

Did she disparage the Army?

NO, NO, NO

Upon enquiry as to why the video was no longer available, a representative of the War College reported this:

Following a presidential executive order, the DoD banned using official resources for cultural awareness months.  These types of posts had to be taken down from DoD social media platforms.

All Susan did was tell her story, which included how many years (72) it took for women to be granted the vote.  She also talked about how women were considered property and invisible under the law once they married.  She told a compelling story and ended it by encouraging everyone to exercise their right to vote.

Don’t ever think that you, as an individual, cannot effect change. I believe whole heartedly that action is the center of power.  Your center of power, as an American citizen, is your right to vote.    Don’t let complacency render you powerless.

Susan will never stop, and she invites you to join her by never giving up the fight for Life, Liberty and the Security of Person.

I recently witnessed an historical re-enactment of Susan B. Anthony by Linda McKenney at Empire State College. Always in character, Ms. McKenney performs without reference to any notes. She incorporates part of Ms. Anthony’s speeches so seamlessly that you can forget some were delivered more than 150 years ago. She is rich in detail, highlighting the most salient moments of Anthony’s life. She is somber, yet with a sense of humor that captures Anthony’s essence. And McKenney was unflappable during the challenging Q&A session.

I know a lot about the suffragists. But I learned even more from observing McKenney’s spell-binding re-enactment. There were moments when I forgot I wasn’t truly in the presence of the great orator. Every so often, my eyes filled with tears, as she relayed emblematic stories of her courage and how she hopes women today will carry on the unfinished revolution.
